Feargal P. Kavanagh
Feargal Kavanagh is a former Irish army captain. He commenced practice as a barrister at the Irish Bar in 1988. In 2003, he was granted a Patent of Precedence by the Irish government and called to the Inner Bar. He is now a Senior Counsel.
He primarily practices in the area of criminal defence and has presented cases at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the Central Criminal Court and the Special Criminal Court in Ireland.
Mr Kavanagh has over 29 years trial experience and has represented accused persons in genocide, war crimes, murder, manslaughter, sex crimes, terrorism, organised crime, dangerous driving causing death and assault cases. He has expertise in Military Law having acted in many cases at Limited and General Courts Martial and in Courts Martial Appeals.
His civil practice includes Judicial Review and Personal Injury cases, including Medical Negligence claims.
He was awarded a European Union scholarship at Trier University in Germany where he undertook studies related to practice before the International Criminal Court in the Hague.
He holds a Master's degree in International Criminal Law / Human Rights conferred by the National University of Ireland, Galway.
